In 2017 Playwriting Australia (PWA) and HotHouse Theatre began an epic partnership: a pioneering playwriting course for Albury-Wodonga and surrounding regions. Outposts is based on PWA’s nationally renowned writer training programs, which seek, develop and champion new Australian stories for the stage.
20 local writers participated in an intense crash course over a weekend in July 2017, facilitated by five professional writers, actors and dramaturgs from PWA’s Sydney team. 12 local writers were selected to participate in five months of fortnightly ‘salons’ with award-winning Australian playwright Lachlan Philpott. Four writers from this group have now spent several months refining their scripts with Lachlan and fellow playwright and former HotHouse Artistic Director Campion Decent.
These four writers have now entered the final stage of development: four days on the floor with Lachlan and Campion, Director Rachel Chant, and four professional actors. An excerpt of each script will be performed as readings on Friday 13 April from 7pm.
After 11 months of inspiration, creativity, and hard work, this program and its writers are giving back to community with a free performance.
Please come along and support your local talent. It’s been a long time coming for these writers and we promise you – it’s going to be worth the wait!
