Unpacking Shakespeare through Performance with Claire Pearson

Sunday 30 October, 10am – 4pm

This one day workshop aims to increase participants’ confidence in how to approach Shakespearean text. Shakespeare is often seen as ‘hard’ and ‘distant’ but it doesn’t have to be! You’ll learn techniques to find clues which bring the text to life and the make the words your own. Participants will get a chance to explore Shakespeare’s language, structure and beauty in this fun workshop via exercises and group activities.

This workshop is for adults aged 18 years and over, AND any year 12 students auditioning for Drama Schools in 2017.

Playcation – a creative vacation for ‘arty-types’ with Emily Sheehan and Kyle Walmsley

Sunday 6 November, 10am – 4pm

You are someone who defines themselves as a ‘creative’. Maybe you have multiple creative projects on the go as part of your work. Or maybe your art is a big part of expressing yourself. Do you have a million ideas, but no focus to follow through? Or perhaps you’re experiencing writer’s block. We get it. If you’re waiting on the “right time” to get back into it – well this workshop is it. This is your permission slip.

This one day workshop includes yoga, meditation, writing exercises (for writers and non-writers) and reflective activities. Take some time out to connect with your inner artist. Lunch will be provided for this workshop.

This workshop is for adults aged 18 years and over.

Character Comedy with Candy Bowers

Sunday 13 November, 10am – 4pm

In this one day workshop, Candy will take participants through a range of exercises, improvisations and activities to grow your confidence in developing characters for stage, with a particular emphasis on comedy. Perfect for beginner actors through to those with a little more experience under their belt.

This workshop is for participants aged 18 and over.

Socially Engaged Theatre – Augusto Boal and Theatre of the Oppressed with Alyson Evans

Sunday 20 November, 10am – 4pm

Perfect for… Community and Cultural Development workers, Facilitators, Teachers, Performers, and those working with disadvantaged groups in the community.

Focusing on games, image theatre and forum theatre, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of practical activities and learn how to use these methods to engage and challenge the participants you work with. The workshops are also ideal for performers who want to learn more about Boal’s work and this style of theatre.

This workshop is for adults aged 18 and over.

Introduction to Clowning with Thomas Jamieson

Sunday 27 November, 10am – 4pm

Welcome to the ancient art of clowning. Throughout the ages every society has found a place for and revered the simple stupidity of clowns in all their many forms. This full day Introduction to Clowning workshop will invite participants to perform and adapt existing clown routines in pairs. Participants will also explore key concepts and tools inherent in the work of a clown. Through games and exercises you will experiment with pleasure and playfulness, complicite, exaggeration, naivety and confusion, finding the game, slapstick and audience connection. What to bring? Only your wonderfully ridiculous human selves and allow your clown to fall right down! ☺
