The very talented Mary Rachel Brown has won the second annual Lysicrates Prize for new Australian Playwriting. Mary is of course the writer of The Dapto Chaser, our first show for 2016. And she’s a little bit on fire at the moment (in a good way).
The Lysicrates prize earns Mary a $12,500 Griffin Theatre Company commission for her new work in its early stages. Approximate Balance is about a family who struggle to cope with their son’s alcoholism. The reading for the Lysicrates panel was directed by the inimitable Mitchell Butel, with a stellar cast including Linda Cropper, John Gaden, Richard Sydenham (also starring in Dapto) and Lena Cruz.
The great pic here is of the Dapto cast (Noel Hodda, Jamie Oxenbould, Richard Sydenham), supporting Mary at the prize night. Mary herself is busy collecting her trophy!
