A Festival is a public celebration, a time to come together and show each other the things we are capable of achieving. It is also an opportunity to see how others go about doing things, what ideas and skills they have, and to share these things in a way that is just as exciting for the audience as it is for the participants. A Festival is not a competition and awards are acknowledgments not prizes. They are earned, but they aren’t won.
At the end of The Biting Dog Theatre Festival each year there are awards given out to groups to acknowledge different achievements. The Industry Feedback Panel, the Festival Director, the Technical Director, the Stage Manager, and the Trainees all get to be involved at some point in making the decisions about who the awards are given to. This year the awards go to:
THE ‘BITING DOG POSTER DESIGN’ AWARD
This award is made to the designer of the graphic image that is selected for the use of the Festival.
Rebecca McGrandles
THE ‘BIG TECH TICK’ AWARD
This award acknowledges an outstanding level of achievement from the Technical Rehearsal day through to the performance. The recipients of this award will have been well prepared for their Tech; they will have arrived with a positive attitude and will have been focused and willing throughout the process.

THE ‘BIG BOLD LEAP’ AWARD
This award acknowledges the group, which presented an innovative idea, or featured an outstanding performance, or found a clever way of staging, or in some other way, caught the imagination of the Panel. The award exists to encourage participating groups to think beyond work that is ‘safe’ and ‘familiar’. Not every group that receives this award will have succeeded in making their ‘risky’ ideas work . . . but they will have succeeded in taking a bold leap into exciting new theatrical territory.

THE ‘PANEL’S PICK’ AWARD
This award acknowledges a group whose work was predominantly student-driven and impressed the Industry Feedback Panel. The award is given for an outstanding script written by students and/or a work that demonstrates innovative student direction (as distinct from work that is predominantly led or created by a teacher or supervising adult).
