THE GLORY - as contemporary as last night’s news bulletin

HotHouse continues its commitment to the commissioning of new Australian theatre with the first play in the 2008 season The Glory by acclaimed Australian playwright Ross Mueller. With a stunning cast and a very contemporary theme, The Glory focuses on issues as up-to-date as last night’s news bulletin.

As Australia awakes to discover the tragic death of a high ranking soldier in a foreign war zone, his military family in the suburbs of Sydney is not only coming to terms with the death of a brother and an uncle but with public and government expectations of how to bury a nation's 'best mate'. But what actually happened to Brigadier Martin Connors at the end of a long and distinguished career? His nephew Tom, also a soldier, returns home with news that will shake this family to its core and leave its matriarch Elizabeth to pick up the pieces. Against a backdrop of the War on Terror and heightened homeland security, playwright Ross Mueller (The Ghost Writer) has fashioned both a heartbreaking family drama and an urgent moral examination of our times.

Former HotHouse Theatre Artistic Directorate member Aidan Fennessy (Ruby Moon, Oleanna) directs an outstanding cast in this world premiere production of a HotHouse Theatre commission. The Glory is the winner of the 2006 Wal Cherry Play of the Year. "The selection of Ross Mueller as the winner of this year's Wal Cherry Award is well-deserved recognition of one of Victoria's most exciting writers." - The Arts Centre, Victoria.

The superlative cast includes Craig Annis (The History Boys, Don Juan in Soho), Deborah Kennedy (R.A.N., Bastard Boys), Belinda McClory (The Matrix, The Ghost Writer), Colin Moody (Mother Courage and Her Children, The Season at Sarsaparilla), and Louise Siversen (City Homicide, Valentine’s Day, Backberner).

Don’t miss this outstanding new work at the Hume Building Society Butter Factory Theatre Wodonga from March 27 – April 5. Bookings can now be made online. Subscribe online and save money and time, with a new print tickets at home option. Also new in 2008, most evening shows commence at 8.00pm instead of 8.15pm.
