Precious Bodily Fluids - Bring your grandparents and kids to this great family show!

Precious Bodily Fluids - Bring your grandparents and kids to this great family show!

Although the launch of HotHouse Season 2008 is not until February 13, you don’t need to wait that long to see a good show at the Hume Building Society Butter Factory Theatre Wodonga. With the support of HotHouse Theatre, Fishladder Theatre of Benalla is delighted to bring their original 2007 production of Precious Bodily Fluids adapted by Cate Kennedy from the affectionate, funny memoir of the same name by Charles Waterstreet to Wodonga in early February 2008.

It’s school holidays, 1961, and Waterstreet’s Hotel in Albury is feeling the pinch. Between the Standard Gauge Rail and Menzies’ Bloody Credit Squeeze, drinkers aren’t drinking as much as they used to and Charlie’s dad Bill is having to cut more corners than Jack Brabham. Charlie’s off to boarding school next term, but for now, he and his mate Taillight are having one last summer of fishing and swimming at the Hume Weir, sneaking into the Show and thinking about Life’s Big Questions. Is fluoridation good for your teeth? Or is it really just a Communist plot, like Brother Farrell says, to sap you of your precious bodily fluids? Why do truckies always wear blue singlets? Will Charlie be able to stop wetting the bed before he goes to boarding school? And why doesn’t the fruit fly just fly around the fruit fly roadblock and take the Barnawatha Bridge to get over the border?

HotHouse’s Artistic Manager Campion Decent saw the show in Benalla late last year. “Cate Kennedy has brought this quintessential local story to the stage with great theatrical flair. It is an evocative, warm-hearted and very funny adaptation. The scale of Precious Bodily Fluids doesn’t allow HotHouse to present the show professionally but I’m thrilled that, by supporting Fishladder Theatre, we can give local audiences an opportunity to see this production.”

Join Fishladder’s cast and crew as they create a poignant and hilarious adaptation of Charles Waterstreet’s story of growing up in a country pub in a more innocent era of Australia’s history, when the Show was the biggest thing to come to town, Ben Hur was on at the movies and there was dancing in the beer garden on a Saturday night. Bring your grandparents or bring your children to this great family show!

Precious Bodily Fluids is on at the Hume Building Society Butter Factory Theatre Wodonga Friday 1st February at 8.00 pm, Saturday 2nd February matinee at 2.00 pm and in the  evening at  8.00 pm. Tickets are only adults $23, concession $17, student $17, and $17 in a group of 10 or more. Book now with HotHouse Theatre on 02 6021 7433.
