At the 2004 Australian National Playwright’s Conference HotHouse Theatre’s Artistic Manager Charles Parkinson saw a play in development that blew him away, and he knew that HotHouse had to have it for the 2005 season - Melbourne playwright Patricia Cornelius’ new no-holds-barred work Love. The HotHouse Artistic Directorate agreed with him and regionally based HotHouse took the brave step of commissioning the World Premiere of this tough, powerful and excellent new work.
In rehearsal at HotHouse’s Butter Factory Studio during October, Love will premiere on October 27 and run until November 5 at the Butter Factory Theatre. And now the good news is the show will also have a metropolitan season in Melbourne at the Malthouse Theatre from November 16 – December 4 – great news for writer, cast, crew, and HotHouse!
Love is an addiction, love is a habit, love can ignite your heart, love can eat you from the inside: Patricia Cornelius’ powerful and poetic drama draws its audience into a world where love can make you feel human even as it destroys you.
Winner of the 2003 Wal Cherry Award for best Australian play Love is a brutal portrayal of two women struggling to survive and understand love in a vicious world of poverty and drugs. Set amongst the seedy backstreet and dingy squats Love is a searing poetic meditation on the nature of that most powerful four letter word.
Directed by Melbourne Director Lauren Taylor Love stars three of Australia’s brightest young stars - Peta Brady (Kath and Kim, Neighbours), Lisa Sontag (The Boy From Oz, The Producers) and Simon Maiden (MDA, Changi).
"My love will snap you in two for just looking at me,
my love will tear you apart for standing this close,
my love will snuff you out for putting your lips on mine."
LOVE by Patricia Cornelius
A HotHouse Theatre production in association with Malthouse Theatre.
Don’t miss it at the venue nearest you!
