HotHouse Theatre today announced Rutherglen High School student Vanessa Campbell as the winner of the 2006 Biting Dog Theatre Festival poster competition.
Vanessa’s striking, colourful hand-drawn work will be used on the poster, programme, and advertising for the Festival which runs from May 31 – June 9.
HotHouse Theatre’s Marketing Co-ordinator, Heather Broadfoot said that HotHouse was delighted with the number and quality of the 2006 entries. "We had a record 53 entries this year, many of a very high standard, both hand-drawn and digital. Our judge, Audray Banfield, former Albury Regional Art Gallery Director, had a very difficult job. In the end this entry stood out because of its striking simplicity and eye catching use of design and colour, making it ideal for the various uses required of a promotional image for a festival" Ms Broadfoot said.
Vanessa’s prize is a cheque for $100, a certificate, and a framed copy of the completed poster. Another aspect to the prize is the chance to be mentored by a graphic designer to turn the image into the festival’s poster, with the challenge of incorporating all required text, acknowledgements and logos.
Vanessa this week took up this opportunity and under the tuition of Wodonga graphic designer Julia Fin of Fin Design, she created the new poster using the latest digital design packages.
In other festival news HotHouse reports an outstanding response to this year’s event with a full complement of 24 groups already working with The Empty Script in preparation for the 2006 Festival performances. In addition, up to eight young technical trainees are in the process of being selected from schools to assist with the running of the Festival. Tickets will go on sale for the Festival from HotHouse Theatre on May 15.
