The Biting Dog Theatre Festival barks again as it bounds into its eleventh consecutive year. The Festival, originally intended as a one-off event, sparked so much interest from local schools and the technical trainee ‘young pups’ that the ‘Dog’ lives on in 2008. With 22 outstanding performances and 9 enthusiastic trainees the Festival once again promises to be all bite.
Festival Director Sebastien Pasche, who studied at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and later worked for The Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, believes the Festival to be an opportunity for young people to gain valuable theatre experience in creating and performing, while working with industry professionals. “There are young people who do want to get into the industry, and they shouldn’t be left out simply because they are in regional Australia,” Mr Pasche said.
The Festival supplies a ‘neutral’ script, and encourages participants to manipulate the text and adapt the characters and storyline to suit their visions. Each Biting Dog performance is unique, and every night the audience will be treated to a thoroughly entertaining experience.
The Biting Dog Theatre Festival consists of two to three 20-minute performances each weeknight from June 11-20, commencing at 7.30pm. Tickets are adults $16, students/concession $8. For further information and tickets, call HotHouse Theatre on (02) 6021 7433, or book online. You’d be barking mad not to attend!
