The touring work that HotHouse Theatre undertakes falls into 2 very different categories:
1. Mainstage touring
2. The Regional Circuit
1. Mainstage touring
HotHouse believes very strongly that the regions play an integral part in the cultural jigsaw of this country and, as such, it is vital that the regional voice is heard on the metropolitan stage. To this end HotHouse Theatre tours some of its productions or coproductions to the major cities - Equation toured to Kenya, Alive at Williamstown Pier played in Sydney while Second Childhood premiered at the Victorian Arts Centre.
2. The Regional Circuit
HotHouse Theatre has created a vibrant Regional Touring Circuit in the company's surrounding region - as far north as Leeton, as far east as the south coast of NSW, as far south as Tallarook, and as far west as Tocumwal. The company has a commitment to touring this Circuit each year with one of the five plays presented in the HotHouse Theatre Subscription Season.
The towns on the Regional Circuit do not have Performing Arts Centres. Instead the venue is the local hall - often small and under resourced community halls or large cavernous memorial halls. HotHouse Theatre has put together a good touring unit consisting of lighting and sound equipment with the flexibility to cope with an extraordinary variety of demands.
Often the smaller venues do not have three phase power, requiring creative electricians and problem solving touring crews. Our experiences of playing in memorial halls against portraits of the Queen or the Honour Roll of those who lost their lives in the Great War, led us to buy a lightweight touring blacks frame, capable of transforming a space into a black box studio.
