Artistic Director/CEO

HotHouse Theatre is seeking a dynamic Artistic Director/CEO to lead the company though the next exciting phase of its history.

Since 1997, HotHouse has been a critical national incubator of high-quality Australian theatre, an adventurous presenter, a centre for artistic retreat and development, and a trusted provider of artistic and professional development programs for its Albury-Wodonga regional community. The company’s substantial investment in artists, audiences and community engages locally and impacts nationally.

The Artistic Director/CEO is responsible for programming an annual subscription season of contemporary Australian theatre works, as well as overseeing a range of interconnected programs and activities.  HotHouse manages a nationally significant performing arts residency, which supports some of Australia’s best artistic teams to develop performing arts works, as well as a Creative Learning program which supports local professional artists, educators and young people. In 2019, the five-bedroom residency farmhouse will be comprehensively renovated, and the company will launch Celsius, a new development program supporting local regional independent artists.

The Artistic Director/CEO also works closely with the General Manager and the HotHouse Theatre Board to devise and deliver the financial and strategic objectives of the company. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the 2020 subscription season and revision of the 2021-2024 strategic plan.

Located on Gateway island in Wodonga, HotHouse manages and programs the historic 162-seat Butter Factory Theatre. The company is currently in receipt of multi-year funding from the Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, Create NSW and its two local councils: AlburyCity and City of Wodonga.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in the creation and/or producing of vibrant contemporary theatre, a thorough understanding of the Australian theatre sector and a broad network of industry relationships and contacts. They will be passionate about artists and helping to grow a vibrant regional creative community. They will be able to articulate a clear and exciting vision for HotHouse, building on its current achievements.

The Artistic Director/CEO plays an important role in the cultural life of Albury-Wodonga and the surrounding region, working with a small, dedicated team to deliver HotHouse’s programs annually.

A remuneration package of $85,000 to $95,000 – including salary, superannuation and addition leave – is available.
